Save The Duck

Let’s talk about the company, Save the Duck.
You might be thinking, what the hell is that? Or, you might know them. Just a short blurb of explanation, they are a jacket company that specializes in puffer/parka jackets that are free from animals! Their slogan is, “We Respect Animals.” How incredible is that?
I recently was gifted one of their jackets that I really have been eyeing for some time now, and let me just tell you right now… It is so freaking warm, it’s insane. I wanted the super long one so when I wear a dress, my legs don’t get cold. I don’t have to worry about dressing up or down, because it covers me literally from head to toe!
ETHICALLY EXPOSED
Don’t let animal-free clothing fool you! It is just as warm, if not warmer than them! What I also really like about them is that they let you know how many ducks you saved with each specific jacket! I think it is super clever because it puts an image in one’s mind about how, and what they are buying, in addition to how they could have affected another living, sentient being in a cruel way.
My jacket in particular saved 34 ducks! Now, if that saved 34 ducks, imagine how many ducks are tortured and killed for other brands. Production is year-round, and feathers and animals are harvested for their skins and muscles, just for the luxury that we call fashion. We consume everything in such large quantities, and so often that we forget to recognize how we got those things. Just because something is a “regular practice,” doesn’t make it right. It goes back to the old saying “If someone were to jump off a cliff, would you do the same?”
No. It’s simple and honestly, such an easy answer when you see and know what you are doing to those at your disposal. As a consumer, we have the power to throw our money any way that we please, but we lack to understand the power that each decision holds.
You might think that the larger the brand, the less your money makes a difference, meanwhile it is so not true. The amount of research that companies (especially large ones because they have so much capital) put into marketing and research for reaching the consumer is insane. They analyze your decision-making skills, why you reacted the way you did, why you decided on a certain color, which product you tend to favor, etc. and the list continues. So, with that knowledgeeeeee… You should be able to pin together the facts that you are a stakeholder within any company you buy from. The consumer makes or breaks demand, and every single one counts!
If you think that one person won’t make a difference, think again my friend. It takes one mouth to tell 50 people about something they don’t like, and those 50 people EACH know more people and the spiral continues until that 1 person now = 1,000. It takes seconds to change things and money to move them.
Now that I went on a rant, Save the Duck is truly amazing, and such a great visionary brand. Their innovative technology and level of respect are on a whole other level. And to also prove to you the popularity among all, they have a place in SOHO NYC. THAT, is HUGE. I know I don’t have to prove anything to you about the brands I write about because I think the values I hold companies to say enough, but in all honesty, Save the Duck is so great and truly has a mission for someone other than humans. Shop kind, Save a Duck. 🙂
